- Do I HAVE to Self-Promote?
-
September 20, 2008
By Julie Ferwerda
“God is in the business of strategically positioning us in the right place at the right time. This isn’t just good theory. It is reality. I have an unshakable sense of destiny because I know that as long as I pursue Gods’ calling on my life, then God is ultimately responsible for getting me where He wants me to go.” Mark Batterson from “In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day.”
There are two kinds of communicators in this world—those who love the art of self-promotion (in the best sense of promoting their ministry with good intent) and those who don’t. I happen to fall into the second category.

- 3 Practical Approaches to Promotion

I'm not known as a self-promoter. Actually, I would run from anything that hinted at self-promotion because I always believed, "it isn't the Christian thing to do", but I'm learning to move beyond that somewhat skewed mindset into a real heart-set of getting out God's message as He directs, what ever it takes.
Concerning promotion, I agree we need to present ourselves first as followers of Christ, giving Him the glory in all we do. But if we are not getting our message out there, then who are we sharing it with? I have prayed for God to bring people into my path who know more than I do, especially dealing with promotion and He has been faithful to provide them.

Promotion! Is it good or bad? As an event planner, publisher and radio/TV producer, I am bombarded with “promotion.” Some good — some bad! So, what is the difference? Mr. Webster says this about the root word “promote.”
Promote:
· To exalt in station, rank or honor; to elevate; advance, as to promote pupils to a higher grade.
· To contribute to growth or development; to further.Promoting and being promoted are two different things. It is better to be promoted than to have to promote yourself. Neither is easy.
