Cries and Praise for Easter

Each year on the first day of Lent, I begin an "Ask Fast." From the dawn of that day through Easter Eve I do not ask God for things. If someone asks me to pray for them and there is a need, I honor their requests. But, day after day, I praise God for any need that I have, and praise Him that He is greater than that need.

On early Easter Sunday I go to ground zero, foot of the cross, and listen again to his cries: "Father, forgive them they know not what they do!" followed by, "It is finished!" In remembrance of what He did, I ask his forgiveness and thank Him that his love plan of the ages is polished and perfected not just for me but for all who hear his cries.

Earlier in my life I would pray, "Lord, I can follow when I see you -- or if YOU do this or that, I will.... !"  It was in life and death struggles that I discovered walking with Him comes after kneeling and yielding, and not from bargaining.

The reality of life is none of us can make ourselves right with the Lord apart from the reality of ground zero and his finished work.

What about you? Ask yourself, "Am I humble? Have I yielded my demands? Am I living in faith and trust? Am I willing to obey? Am I dwelling in the palace of praise?"

As Christian leaders we must move into a new arena of praise, loving others, and offering grace, mercy, and compassion.  Jesus holds the promise before us that He will give us back a "hundred-fold" (Matthew 19:29).  It is insight into His Love Plan and resources to do His work as we are pray for our friends and our nation.

Look at the example of Job. The Lord restored Job's lack, loss, deficit, and darlings when He prayed not for himself, but for his friends.

Today people and leaders in America are disillusioned, disappointed, distrusted, and displaced by their choices and far-reaching changes. America's vision and passion can be as clarified as Job's, if we go to ground zero, pray and yield to his way.

As you prepare to celebrate Easter, visit that place of grace where Jesus finished his work, and think about how deep that hole was to be to hold the cross, to hold Him, and to hold your sin!

Then get up and give him praise that Easter is real in you through the Power of his Presence.  Remember, praise is the password to his heart and blessing.
